Mental Health Matters – Make a Difference

With one (1) in five (5) Australians experiencing mental illness each year, this mental health course will help you make a difference. The nationally recognised CHC43315 Certificate IV in Mental Health qualification equips you with job-ready skills to build a meaningful profession in this important field. Choose how you learn with the option of in-person or remote learning available.

You’ll gain valuable professional experience through an 80-hour work placement, allowing you to practice your theoretical learning.

Virtual – Existing Worker, Community Services Industry

This program is designed for people who are already making a difference in the community services sector and want to strengthen their skills in supporting people experiencing mental health challenges. If you are currently working in a role that involves regular, direct engagement with clients, this training is designed to build on your existing experience and enhance your professional practice.

As part of the application process, we’ll complete a pre-training review to confirm your eligibility. Experience may include current or recent (within the past two years) paid work or structured volunteering in a relevant role.

Evening delivery, one night per week.

Timetable: 38 remote-delivery classes from 4:30pm – 9pm including 11 extended sessions from 2:30pm – 9pm

Face-to-face delivery – Work Readiness

Our face-to-face courses are for perfect for people looking to enter the community services sector who prefer to attend in-person.

Applicants must be working under 20 hours per week, or unemployed.

Course structure

To be awarded CHC43315 Certificate IV in Mental Health, a student must complete a total of fifteen (15) units of competency.

Pathways delivers the electives listed in the ‘Elective Units’ below. These electives have been selected based on industry needs, student pathways and/or student and trainer/assessor feedback. Alternative suitable electives are only available via Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer (CT).

  • CHCMHS004 Work collaboratively with the care network and other services
  • CHCMHS005 Provide services to people with co-existing mental health and alcohol and other drug issues
  • CHCMHS007 Work effectively in trauma-informed care
  • CHCMHS008 Promote and facilitate self-advocacy
  • CHCMHS011 Assess and promote social, emotional and physical wellbeing
  • HLTWHS001 Participate in workplace health and safety

Elective units

  • HLTWHS006 Manage personal stressors in the work environment
  • CHCMHS001 Work with people with mental health issues
  • CHCPRP003 Reflect on and improve own professional practice
  • CHCCCS003 Increase the safety of individuals at risk of suicide

Learners will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for all successfully completed units.

Work placement

A student must complete at least 80 hours of work placement to achieve this qualification.

Pathways will support learners in securing appropriate placement opportunities relevant to their qualifications. Placement is unpaid. genU Training is well connected with the industry and will arrange a work placement that meets the learning outcomes of your qualification. If the placement we source is not suitable, you can find your own, and we will assess whether the learning outcomes will be met. We are here to support you throughout this process.

If you are employed and wish to complete your placement hours with your current employer, your workplace must be assessed to ensure the learning outcomes will be met.

Entry requirements

There are no entry requirements for non-trainees. You can enquire about the CHC43315 Certificate IV in Mental Health now.

Virtual – Existing Worker, Community Services Industry: You must be working in the community services sector supporting people experiencing mental health challenges.

Face-to-face delivery – Work Readiness: You must be working less than 20 hours per week (any industry), or unemployed.

Study requirements

Students will need to demonstrate that they have the appropriate:

  • Language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills
  • Communication, documentation and research skills
  • Access to a laptop or desktop computer with basic digital literacy skills

Technology and workstation set-up

Students undertaking on-campus, blended and/or virtual training will require intermediate computer skills such as internet browsing, email, word processing, and presentation software. We understand the importance of a conducive study environment, so that you will need a quiet study space with a stable internet connection.

You will also need:

  • Web camera, microphone and speakers
  • Smartphone
  • Earbuds or headphones
  • Zoom video conferencing software.

Please note: You must turn your camera and microphone on during video conferencing.
